I am my OWN Kryptonite!

I Am My OWN Kryptonite

You know that moment in superhero movies when the seemingly invincible hero stumbles upon their one weakness? Superman has kryptonite. Iron Man has his damaged heart. Batman has, well... emotional baggage for days. And me? My kryptonite is consistency.

Every morning, I wake up with the best of intentions. "Today is the day!" I tell myself. I’ll write a blog post, check in on my email subscribers, and maybe even tackle that social media strategy I’ve been avoiding. Then, reality sets in. One misplaced distraction - a notification, an extra-long TV break, or a tempting YouTube video about "How to Train Your Goldfish to Roll Over" (don’t judge!) - and suddenly, my productive morning spirals into "I'll get on to that tomorrow."

Why Consistency Feels So Hard

The truth is, staying consistent feels like trying to run a marathon on a treadmill -you’re moving, but are you really getting anywhere? And when you’re starting out in affiliate marketing, where results aren’t exactly instant, it’s easy to let discouragement creep in. No sales? No traffic? Well, what’s the point of posting that next blog, right?

That’s the inner dialogue I’ve been battling lately. It’s a classic case of me versus myself. My inner critic has the loudest voice in the room, constantly reminding me of all the things I haven’t done, rather than celebrating the small victories.

Procrastination in Disguise

I’ll let you in on a little secret: procrastination has a lot of disguises. Sometimes, it’s scrolling through endless motivational quotes on Instagram (ironically unmotivating after the 10th one). Other times, it’s convincing myself that reorganizing my desk for the fourth time this week will somehow lead to groundbreaking insights. And don’t even get me started on the rabbit hole of researching "the best time to post on social media" without ever actually posting anything.

It’s not that I don’t want to succeed. Quite the opposite, actually. But fear has a funny way of sneaking in. What if this blog post flops? What if no one reads it? What if I’m just wasting my time?

Small Wins, Big Lessons

Despite the self-sabotage, I’ve had a few small wins along the way. I’ve gotten positive feedback from readers who resonate with my story. I’ve built an email list (even if it’s small, it’s mighty). And most importantly, I’ve learned that taking action - even imperfect action - is better than doing nothing at all.

Affiliate marketing is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s about playing the long game and remembering why I started this journey in the first place. For me, it’s about freedom. Freedom to spend time with my family, freedom to call my own shots, and freedom to create a life I love. And let’s be honest, it’s also about proving to myself that I can do this.

The Plan to Tame My Kryptonite

So, where do I go from here? How do I keep the momentum going when consistency feels like the ultimate supervillain?

1. Set Smaller Goals: Instead of trying to write a masterpiece in one sitting, I’m breaking tasks into bite-sized pieces. One blog paragraph today, another tomorrow. Progress is progress.

2. Embrace Imperfection: Not every post or email needs to win a Pulitzer. Done is better than perfect—a mantra I’m learning to live by.

3. Celebrate Wins: Whether it’s a new subscriber, a blog comment, or just hitting “publish” on that overdue post, I’m making a point to celebrate the small stuff.

4. Accountability: Sharing my journey with readers like you helps keep me on track. Knowing someone’s out there, rooting for me (or at least reading my ramblings), is motivation enough to keep going.

5. Be Kind to Myself: Consistency isn’t built overnight. I’m giving myself grace to stumble, to restart, and to keep moving forward.

You’re Not Alone

If you’ve ever felt like you’re spinning your wheels, know that you’re not alone. We all have our kryptonite, and that’s okay. What matters is showing up, even when it’s hard. Because every step - no matter how small - is a step in the right direction.

So, here I am, putting one foot in front of the other, one blog post at a time. And if you’re reading this, know that I’m cheering you on, too. Let’s keep going - together.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a blog post to finish. Wait… did I just do that? Maybe consistency isn’t my kryptonite after all.

  • Hi Sean,
Great post filled with fantastic wisdom!
I know that sometimes we can be our biggest critic when we should be our greatest supporter.
The other thing I’ve found is that not everyone is made out to be an entrepreneur and that’s ok. In my case, I’ve always had something on the side to help me both express myself but also make a few dollars.
I totally love the point you bring as well of letting us know that we’re not alone; something we tend to forget many times.
One of the things I’ve done during this year was bring in my wife into my business; more importantly, let her be my General (you can retire the Captain but you can’t get the Army out of him), in my online endeavours – and it has helped me keep focus on what I’ve had to do.
Wishing you all the best & a safe Holiday period to you & yours!

  • Sean, what a refreshing take on consistency. I love the graphic. And you have a good plan there on how to tame your kryptonite.

I’ve been lapsing on a lot of consistency and I totally relate to the morning’s best of intentions. But you know what? I religiously fill out my activity tracking spreadsheet but rarely do I share all those zeros, lol. After all, what am I expecting in the way of advice eh? “Just keep going”, rings in my brain.

I cheer on the like-minded as well. Keep up the good work and enjoy your Christmas!
